Calvin Lennig

Calvin Lennig (* 1993 in Duisburg ) is a German jazz musician ( double bass , electric bass ).

Lennig grew up in Sevelen on the Lower Rhine and received his first electric bass and guitar lessons at the age of 14. In the following years he played bass in rock and pop bands. At the age of 16 he started taking lessons from Marcel Grothues, who introduced him to the world of jazz. As part of a preparatory course for his music studies, he began playing the double bass with André Nendza in Cologne at the age of 18. From 2012 he studied bass at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen with Robert Landfermann and Stefan Rademacher . Between 2014 and 2017 he was the bass player in the JugendJazzOrchester NRW , with whom he can be heard on the album Triangle .

Lennig continued to play with Tim Riddle, the Hannes Weyland Band, the Jan Alexander Trio, with whom the album Of Memories to Come was created in 2019 , and the Neptune Kings . He toured with different groups in South America, Britain, Iceland, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Spain.

Lennig has lived in Cologne since 2017 and works as a freelance musician in various styles. The album Chasing Memories ( Unit Records 2019) was created with the Pascal Klewer Big Band . He is also part of Heidi Bayer's quartet , with whom he released the album Virtual Leaks on Tangible in 2020 . He also played concerts with Adam Nussbaum , Seamus Blake , Christian Lillinger , Ben van Gelder , Paul Heller , Florian Weber , Jeff Cascaro , Markus Stockhausen , Gabriel Pérez and the Subway Jazz Orchestra .
