Pascal Klewer

Pascal Klewer (* 1997 ) is a German jazz musician ( trumpet , composition ) who also leads his own big band .

Klewer began playing the trumpet at the age of eight; he soon played in several local orchestras as well as in ensembles at the Gernsheim high school . He began studying jazz at the age of 14 while living in Austin, Texas. A year later he began to found his own groups and to compose for different genres and groups. In 2014 he became a member of the State Youth Jazz Orchestra of Hesse; In 2018/19 he played in the Federal Jazz Orchestra . Since 2015 he has been studying jazz trumpet at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with Andy Haderer , Niels Klein and Jürgen Friedrich .

Klewer has been leading his Pascal Klewer Bigband since 2017 , with whom he has had numerous appearances since 2018, partly together with musicians such as Peter Brötzmann , Evan Parker , Christian Lillinger , Kit Downes and Christopher Dell . The debut album Chasing Memories received good reviews. He also plays in a duo with the drummer Simon Bräumer, in a duo with the saxophonist Victor Fox and in a trio with the bassist Sofia Eftychidou and Simon Bräumer. He is also a member of the Cologne-based HipHop Brass Band MOZAH , the Nonet Shaikh9 and the Aurora Octet . He also conducts an amateur big band in Duisburg.

Klewer also played with the WDR Big Band , the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra , the Subway Jazz Orchestra , Grand Central Orchestra, the Jugendjazzorchester NRW , the Next Generation Orchestra , Sonnemann Quintett or the Upper Manhattan Jazz Group as well as Diane Schuur , Dee Dee Bridgewater , Randy Brecker and Darcy James Argue .

Klewer composed for his own big band, the Subway Jazz Orchestra, the Junior Band of the LJJO Hessen and the Symphonic Band of the Gernsheim High School. For his big band composition New Steps , he won the second prize in the Jugend komponiert Hessen competition.
