The Catholic parish church Heilig Kreuz in Holzhausen , a district of the Alling community in the Upper Bavarian district of Fürstenfeldbruck , is essentially a late Gothic building that was converted to Baroque style at the end of the 17th century . The church is dedicated to the cross of Christ , which, according to legend , was found again by St. Helena , mother of Emperor Constantine the Great . The church is one of the protected architectural monuments in Bavaria.

history

As early as 770, a church is mentioned in "Holzhusir" on the occasion of its consecration by the Freising Bishop Arbeo . The current church was built around 1400 and changed to Baroque style in 1697 . In the years 1727/28 the tower received its baroque structure with an onion dome . In 1831/32 the interior was partially redesigned.

architecture

Exterior construction

The bell tower covered with an onion dome stands in the northern corner of the choir . It consists of a square basement and an octagonal structure, which is structured by cornices and glare fields and broken through by arched sound arcades . The portal is integrated into a sign on the west facade of the nave.

inner space

inner space

The interior is a late Gothic hall with a drawn-in choir closed on three sides . In the course of the baroque renovation of the church, the Gothic net ribs in the choir were chopped off and the vault covered with stucco decoration made of fruit garlands, angel heads and acanthus vines. The nave is covered by a flat needle cap barrel, which is decorated with ceiling paintings . The western end of the nave is formed by a double gallery resting on two pillars .

Ceiling painting

The ceiling paintings date from the time the interior was redesigned and are dated to 1832. They depict Moses , the victory of Constantine on the Milvian Bridge and the birth of Christ.

Furnishing

High altar
  • The high altar probably dates from the baroque era of the church. In the middle of the altar is a life-size crucifixion group, the side figures depict Emperor Constantine the Great and his mother, Saint Helena .
  • The side altars are designed in the classicism style and came into the church around 1832. The altar leaves are in the style of the Nazarenes . The painting on the north altar depicts the birth of Christ, the south altar depicts the Descent from the Cross.
  • On the parapet of the lower gallery, scenes of the Passion are depicted on baroque canvas pictures .
