Heimat, süße Heimat (alternative title in the GDR Dörfchen, mein Dörfchen ) is a melancholy comedy by director Jiří Menzel , shot in 1985 in Czechoslovakia. It was nominated for an Oscar as a foreign film .

The truck driver Pávek, short and fat, and his co-driver Otik, long and thin, are an unequal couple. You live in a small village "at the end of the world". Because Otik is mentally handicapped, his work colleague Pávek and the villagers worry about him. When Otik, after an argument with Pávek, decides to move to the capital Prague alone, everyone realizes what they will lose with his departure. Everyone tries to keep Otik in his little village, in his sweet home.
