Heinrich Becher (born November 22, 1865 in Bayreuth , † March 20, 1941 in Munich ) was a German judge at various courts in Bavaria , most recently at the Bavarian Supreme Court . He is best known as the father of Johannes R. Becher .

Life

Heinrich Becher was the third child of his parents. His father was a royal financial auditor. He was baptized as a Protestant on December 5, 1865 . After elementary school and humanistic grammar school , he passed the school leaving examination in 1883 . From the winter semester of 1883, Becher studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg . In 1884 he was reciprocated in the Corps Suevia Munich and the Corps Rhenania Heidelberg . In 1887 he passed the first state examination and the second in 1890/91.

In 1890 Heinrich Becher married a pharmacist's daughter from Baden (Land) . In 1891 his first son Johannes R. Becher was born , and in 1900 his second son Ernst. In 1894 he was at the University of Würzburg to Dr. iur. PhD. The unusually extensive dissertation with 564 printed pages was not primarily designed as a doctoral thesis , but as a publication. In 1897 and 1898 Heinrich Becher published revisions of what was then the standard work on Bavarian civil law. In the years 1898 to 1901, Becher published all of the materials on the Bavarian implementation laws for the Civil Code . From 1901 to 1912 he published a collection of the implementing laws and regulations for the BGB of all German federal states.

Heinrich Becher was since November 1, 1891 III. Public prosecutor in Munich and since November 1, 1893 local judge, also in Munich In 1897 he was seconded to the Reich Justice Office. After his return to Munich he became the second public prosecutor, on November 16, 1899 district judge, on January 1, 1910 deputy district court director, on November 16, 1912 councilor at the Munich Higher Regional Court and on July 1, 1924 councilor at the Bavarian Supreme Court. Contrary to what his son Johannes R. Becher claims, he has never been president of the court. As far as can be ascertained, Heinrich Becher was mainly involved in civil matters in his judicial work . On January 1, 1934, Heinrich Becher retired from active service because he had reached the age limit.

Johannes R. Becher dealt with his father in various works, above all in the novel Abschied , in which his father worked as public prosecutor Dr. Heinrich Gastl is portrayed. The execution of the robber Mathias Kneißl , in whose conviction Heinrich Becher was not involved, but which was probably a topic of conversation in Johannes R. Becher's parents' house, is dealt with in several works by Johannes R. Becher. However, the assertion in the comments in the GDR edition of the novel Levisite by Johannes R. Becher that Kneißl was sentenced to death "by Becher's father, the then President of the Higher Regional Court", is incorrect .
