Heinrich Bukow , called "the Elder" († March 3 or March 4, 1473 ), was a German Catholic theologian and rector of the University of Greifswald .

Life

Heinrich Bukow came from an influential Greifswald council family. He was the son of Greifswald councilor Hinrich Bukow (1383-1411) and Katharina von Werle and brother of councilors Siegfried († 1449) and Georg († 1476) Bukow.

In 1427 he enrolled at the University of Rostock . In 1444 he was a member of the Stralsund Council. On January 21, 1445 he became a pleban at the Nikolaikirche in Gützkow . In 1449 he was provost (prepositus) of the Nikolaikirche in Greifswald . He advocated the establishment of a collegiate foundation at the church and in 1457 donated a prebend who was to benefit the respective holder of the theological chair. After the establishment of the collegiate monastery, he was confirmed as provost.

In 1457 he was elected second rector of the University of Greifswald as the successor to Heinrich Rubenow , one of whose opponents he was counted although he had no academic degree . After Rubenow had arrested the hunting party of Duke Erich II who had illegally hunted in the forest near Horst , Bukow and other opponents Rubenov used the opportunity to trigger a campaign against him. Rubenov had to leave the city, but was able to return after a while and regain his offices. Heinrich Bukow then voluntarily left the city for some time, but was able to keep his office.

In 1463 he received a canonical at the cathedral in Cammin .

When, after the murder of Heinrich Rubenow, at the instigation of his brother-in-law Henning Hennings, the mayor Dietrich Lange - son of his sister Margarete and the councilor Nikolaus von der Osten was tried in 1463, Heinrich Bukow could not be proven guilty. Although he was elected rector of the University of Greifswald for the second time, he left Greifswald in 1463 to exercise his office as a pleban in Gützkow. Only after Hennings died of the plague did Bukow return to Greifswald in 1464.

In 1467 he was elected one of the procurators of the artist faculty. He died on March 3 or 4, 1474.

His nephew Heinrich Bukow and heir of the same name was rector of the University of Greifswald several times as a legal scholar.
