Heinrich Janssen (Bishop)

Heinrich Janssen (born October 13, 1932 in Kevelaer ; also Heinz Janssen ) is a German auxiliary bishop emeritus in Münster .

Life

Heinrich Janssen studied after high school at the Collegium Augustinianum Gaesdonck Catholic theology and history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . On February 2, 1961, he received the sacrament of ordination and was subsequently chaplain of the Holy Trinity parish. In 1965 he took over the office of spiritual at the Collegium Ludgerianum , from 1966 that of the rector and advisor for pastoral care at the secondary schools in the diocese of Münster. In 1971 Janssen became deputy head of the main school and education department in the Episcopal Vicariate General , in 1976 resident Cathedral Chapter in Münster and from 1981 Episcopal Vicar General .

Pope John Paul II appointed Janssen in 1986 titular bishop of Aquae Sirenses and auxiliary bishop in Münster. He received his episcopal consecration on September 21, 1986, Bishop Reinhard Lettmann from Münster ; Co- consecrators were Heinrich Maria Janssen , former bishop of Hildesheim , and Ludwig Averkamp , coadjutor bishop in Osnabrück and later archbishop of Hamburg . Janssen was responsible for the Lower Rhine part of the diocese of Münster and had his seat in the Xanten Cathedral . From 1987 Janssen also worked as a representative of the German Bishops' Conference for Catholic pastoral care in the Federal Border Guard .

Janssen has been an honorary member of the K.St.V. Markomannia in the KV zu Münster and since 1994 honorary member of the KDStV Winfridia (Breslau) Münster in the CV .

After Pope Benedict XVI. Janssen's age-related request for resignation, which every bishop has to submit after reaching the age of 75 in accordance with the provisions applicable in church law, had initially been rejected in 2007 until further notice, he finally accepted the resignation on May 31, 2010.
