Heinrich Krippel
Heinrich Krippel (* 27. September 1883 in Vienna , † 5. April 1945 ) was an Austrian sculptor , stands out for its monumental representations of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in Turkey was announced.
Life
Krippel studied from 1904 to 1913 at the Vienna Art Academy with Edmund von Hellmer and Hans Bitterlich . He was honored at an early age: on July 21, 1908, he received the Golden Fügermedaille from the general sculpture school of the Vienna Academy; on July 1, 1912 as a student of Edmund Hellmer the Dumba Prize. In the First World War he served as an artillery officer . On August 14, 1918, he applied for admission to the art group of the Austro-Hungarian War Press Quarter , describing his artistic career in his application for admission. Until then, he had not yet taken part in an exhibition.
After the war ended, Krippel was a freelance sculptor. He created realistic portrait busts and grave monuments , for example the sculptures for a mausoleum in Siebenhirten near Vienna. Study trips subsequently took him to Greece and Italy .
In 1925 he won an international competition and worked for the government of Turkey until 1938. In addition to the victory monument in Ankara , the Zafer Anıtı , he created other monuments in Istanbul , Konya , Samsun and Afyon, including equestrian statues . The most famous of the equestrian statues was that of Ataturk in Istanbul. Other Austrian artists serving Turkey at this time were Anton Hanak and Josef Thorak .
Krippel created two portrait busts ( August von Mackensen and Paul von Hindenburg ) for the Vienna Army History Museum , which were unveiled on January 10, 1944.
His nieces were Elisabeth and Adelgunde Krippel .
