Heinrich Mohr (born September 10, 1874 in Lauda , † June 20, 1951 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman and folk writer.

Life

Mohr attended the elementary school in Lauda from 1881 to 1887 and the Tauberbischofsheim grammar school from 1887 . After graduating from high school in 1893 and then studying theology in Freiburg , Mohr, who wanted to become a writer at an early age, first began a church career. He was ordained a priest on July 1, 1897 and was then vicar in Mosbach , Schwetzingen , Wiesental and Karlsruhe . In 1900 he became chaplain in Neusatzeck and in 1902 curate in Weitungen. From 1904 he lived as a freelance writer. In 1941, at the request of the Canton of Basel-Stadt, Switzerland refused to allow him to enter Switzerland.

In 1927 he was awarded an honorary doctorate in theology. He died in Freiburg in 1951 and was buried in his hometown of Lauda. A street there is named after him.

Mohr's work as an author was devoted to religious edification literature . With his writings, such as B. “The soul in the corner of God. Sunday booklet for simple people ”or“ The village in the sky sun ”he wanted to reach the common people and especially the rural population. During the First World War , collections of field sermons such as “Voice of Home”, “Lose Leaves for Home and Field” and writings such as “War turmoil from old times”, “God's fighters” and “Give peace” appeared in quick succession. These books were published in a particularly small format in order to have space in the soldiers' packs. In addition to his own homeland stories, Schwänken and religious texts, he also published adaptations of well-known folk works such as the Seven Swabians by Ludwig Aurbacher or the Güldenen Virtue Book by Friedrich Spee .

From 1903 Mohr published the "St. Lioba-Blatt" and from 1912 the "Dorfstube". Both were merged in 1931 under the title "Das Himmelreich". From 1929 Mohr was also the editor of “Das Kleinste Pfarrblatt - the organ of the local pastor”.
