Friedrich Wilhelm von Roeder

Friedrich Wilhelm von Roeder (born January 18, 1719 on Parnehnen ; † March 15, 1781 in Rothsürben ) was a Prussian major general , inspector general of the Lower Silesian cavalry, dragoons and hussar regiments. He was chief of cuirassiers no. 1 , Amtshauptmann of Zechlin , Wittstock and Lindow and reclining and Court of Mr. Rothsürben in Silesia .

Life

His parents were the lieutenant colonel and commander of the garrison battalion No. 2 Johann Dietrich von Roeder († February 2, 1736) and his wife Louise Charlotte, born von Graevenitz from the house of Bazow.

In 1737 Roeder became a cornet in the "Geßler" cuirassier regiment , and in 1738 he became a lieutenant. In 1750 he became staff assistant master and 1751 cavalry master. In 1760 he became lieutenant colonel and commander of the regiment, and in 1764 he became a colonel. In 1766 he was transferred to the "Schlabrendorf" cuirassier regiment as a commander and in 1767 appointed chief. On September 9, 1769 he was promoted to major general and in 1770 to inspector general of the Lower Silesian cavalry.

During the First Silesian War he was adjutant to General Field Marshal Geßler . Roeder distinguished himself especially in the battle near Hohenfriedberg and near Kesseldorf . He was wounded in the right elbow in the Battle of Prague . In the battle near Chemnitz his hands were injured and captured, but he was soon exchanged. In the battle of Freiberg he attacked a square of eight battalions with the cuirassier regiment "Schmettau" . He managed to blow up the square in the third attack. The regiment took numerous prisoners, plus eight flags, four cannons and four howitzers . But a grape ball had smashed his right arm in the process. After the battle of Torgau he received the order Pour le Mérite .

Prince Heinrich of Prussia dedicated a plaque on his Rheinsberg obelisk to him .

Roeder married Leopoldine Ernestine von Schmeling in 1764 (* March 25, 1736, † May 14, 1795). The marriage produced several children, including:
