Heinrich Tötter (* 1910 ; † 1993 ) was a German journalist .

Life

After studying newspaper science, sociology and history, Tötter first worked in Cologne and Saarland . In mid-1940 he came to the newly founded occupation organ Brussels newspaper , where he was initially responsible for the political part. On July 1, 1941, Tötter was appointed deputy editor-in-chief, and three months later he inherited August Haase as editor-in-chief of the newspaper. Unlike his predecessor, he wrote mainly about international politics and only occasionally about Belgium . In contrast to Haase, Tötter was also not noticeable for his radicalism. After the editorial office had to leave Brussels at the end of August 1944 because of the advance of the Allies, he, his deputy, leftRobert Schmelzer and another editor moved to Mönchengladbach , where the last two issues of the newspaper were produced. Following the end of the Brussels newspaper , Tötter and Schmelzer were imposed by the Gauleitung of the Kölnische Zeitung , where he was again editor-in-chief. He also wrote in 1945 for the Osnabrück "Neue Tageblatt" in the field of politics.

After the war, Tötter was successively editor-in-chief at the Osnabrück "Neue Tagespost" (1947–1955), the Hamburger Anzeiger (1955–1957), the Allgemeine Zeitung (1958–1963) and the Recklinghäuser Zeitung (1970–1971).

From 1957 to 1960 he held a teaching position for newspaper studies at the University of Mainz , and from 1967 Tötter was a lecturer in journalism at the Bundeswehr School for Inner Leadership in Koblenz . In addition, in the mid-1960s he was involved in organizing a “Bonn Round Table” with politicians.
