Heinrich Totting von Oyta (* approx. 1330 in Altenoythe ; † May 12, 1397 in Vienna ) was an important theologian and philosopher in the 14th century.

Life and work

Heinrich Totting von Oyta (in literature also: Henrici de Oyta, Hainricus de Oyta, Hainreichen) studied in Prague and initially taught in Prague, Erfurt and Paris. Like Heinrich von Langenstein , who also worked at the University of Paris, Heinrich Totting von Oyta was able to succeed by Duke Albrecht III. be won over to the University of Vienna by its Chancellor, Berthold von Wehingen .

He is considered to be the co-founder of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna (founded on February 21, 1384).

He died on May 12, 1397 and was buried in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna , initially in the Apostle's choir at the Johannes Altar, later his grave was moved to the Chapel of St. Catherine.

Heinrich Totting von Oyta's pupils included Konrad III. von Soltau , Johannes Marienwerder and Nikolaus von Dinkelsbühl .
