Heinrich Wilhelm Karl von Harnier

Heinrich Wilhelm Karl von Harnier (born April 11, 1767 in Kassel , † July 9, 1823 in Munich ) was a Prussian Legation Councilor and later Grand Ducal Hessian Privy Councilor , Ambassador Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary, as well as Minister of the Bundestag.

He came from the Walloon Huguenot family Harnier, who immigrated to Germany around 1650 . His parents were the Secret War Council in Kassel Johann Kaspar Harnier (1739-1811) and his wife Susanne Henriette Dupré (1748-1837).

Life

He became known through the negotiations between Prussia and France, which led to the Peace of Basel in 1795 . Then he came to Munich as a Prussian legation counselor. In 1804 he was also represented at the Munich court for the interests of Hesse and Darmstadt . After the defeat of Prussia by Napoleon in the Fourth Coalition War , he switched completely to the service of the Grand-Ducal Hessian. On February 10, 1810, he received the grand-ducal Hessian nobility. In Munich, Harnier was the most important friend of the anatomist and naturalist Samuel Thomas Soemmerring , since he had moved there in 1805.

In 1815 he was appointed Minister of the Hessian Parliament. However, as a result of political differences of opinion with Prince Metternich , he and others resigned from this position and went to Munich as Ambassador Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary. There he died in 1823 of a stroke that struck him while riding in the English Garden.

family

He married Katharina Henriette Fladt on March 4, 1797 (* June 24, 1773; † December 13, 1847). She was the daughter of Johann Georg Fladt from Mannheim and Maria Anna Ritter . Harnier had several children with his wife, including:
