Heinrich von der Osten (born July 25, 1603 in Stolpe (Peene) , † August 18, 1659 in Batevitz ) was a knightly district administrator in the Duchy of Pomerania and in Swedish Pomerania . He was the heir to Batevitz, Penkun and Plüggentin.

Life

Heinrich von der Osten , a son of Henning von der Osten (1563–1626), governor of Stolpe an der Peene and knightly district administrator in Pommern-Wolgast , was tutored in his childhood and youth by private tutors. Under the leadership of his court master Johannes Micraelius , he studied from 1621 three years at the University of Leipzig, among other things, the Latin language as well as history and politics. In 1624 he went to the University of Leiden , where he learned the French language . He then went on a trip through the Netherlands .

In 1626 he returned to Pomerania to devote himself to the administration of his father's property, which he took over that same year after his father's death. Duke Bogislaw XIV appointed him in 1627 as court judge at the royal court in Wolgast . After Wolgast was occupied by the imperial troops of Wallenstein , he fled first to Stettin , then to Hamburg in 1629 . He returned to Stettin in 1630, before Gustav Adolf had landed in Pomerania. At the suggestion of the knighthood, he was appointed district administrator by Bogislaw XIV. Because of his unstable health, he turned down various offers to accept respectable offices, but was still active in affairs of the country and the estates until his death. From 1643 he belonged to a committee of the estates of Pomerania-Wolgast, which negotiated with the committee of the estates of Pomerania-Stettin and the Swedish government in Pomerania , as well as corresponded with the Pomeranian envoys in the peace negotiations in Osnabrück .

In 1633 he married Ilsabe Catharina von der Osten, daughter of Christoff von der Osten in Woldenburg and Plathe. They had ten children, four daughters and six sons, three of whom died in childhood.

He died in 1659 on his Batevitz estate and was buried on February 8, 1660 in the St. Nikolai Church in Stralsund .
