Henning von der Osten (* 1563 ; † 1626 ) was a knightly district administrator in the Duchy of Pommern-Wolgast . He was the heir to Plüggentin, Penkun and Batevitz and governor of Stolpe , Verchen and Lindenberg .

Life

Henning von der Osten studied at the Universities of Greifswald , Leipzig and Heidelberg . In 1587 he went to the ducal court in Wolgast , where he was assigned to Duchess Sophie Hedwig . He accompanied Duke Franz to the court of King Christian IV of Denmark and held the office of court master . In 1593 he became chamberlain to the young Duke Philipp Julius for five or six years . When in 1598 he refused the position of court master, he was instead appointed captain of the Stolpe an der Peene office. In 1599 he was appointed knightly district administrator at the suggestion of the landscape . Duke Philipp Julius took over the government in the Duchy of Pomerania-Wolgast in 1603 and offered him the office of court marshal . Henning von der Osten refused for health reasons, the duke appointed him captain of the offices of Verchen and Lindenberg. He was at the signing of the treaties between Philipp Julius and Bogislaw XIII. involved in the latter via the assignment of the offices of Barth and Franzburg .

In 1614 he came into the possession of Penkun Castle , which he bought the following year for a total of 122,333 guilders or 91,750 Reichstaler with confirmation from Duke Philipp Julius Joachim von der Schulenburg.

family

Henning von der Osten was a son of District Administrator Andreas von der Osten and Ursula von Normann . He was married twice. His first marriage was with Anna von Levetzow , daughter of Heinrich von Levetzow and Margarethe von Bülow . After she died, he married Anne von Lützow , widow of Kuno Wolff von Bassewitz . He had a total of two daughters and four sons.

His son Heinrich von der Osten (1603–1659) was a knightly district administrator in the Duchy of Pomerania and in Swedish Pomerania .
