history

Location of Heinrichsdorf and Elpe in Olsberg

The former mining village was founded in Ramsbeck in 1854 during the heyday of lead and zinc mining . The miners' colony was built next to the tunnels of the Alte Ries mine . The village was named after the then general director of the mining company and builder of the colony Marquis Henry Etienne Bernard de Sasseney, whose real name was Heinrich Stefan Bernard.

A few years later the mining company got into a crisis, so that as early as 1856 Saxon workers left the place. Before the turn of the century, there were occasionally over 200 residents in the village. The local mining company only sold its buildings to the local residents after 1950.

During the Second World War , an Allied plane crashed between Heinrichsdorf and the waterfall in 1940. Another crashed in 1944 near the Ehls inn. On March 5, 1945, 3,000 foreign workers , including women and children, were brought to the village from Ramsbeck in foot-deep snow under the supervision of the police and the Volkssturm . These had to be supplied and accommodated by the community. In the morning the wretched train moved on on foot, sometimes with handcarts and carts. More marching columns followed in the next few days. On March 7, a US bomber crashed 200 m west of the village. The bodies were buried in the park. On April 1st, German soldiers marched through the village. Some Volkssturm men from the village were ordered to Olsberg. On April 4, 150 Volkssturm men from Düsseldorf came to the village. Among them were 20 Russians in German uniforms and boys from the Reich Labor Service . The squad that belonged to the 116th Infantry Division did not even have weapons. On the same day, German soldiers fled through the village towards Elpe. Soldiers from the Waffen SS division Feldherrnhalle rounded off the event . The population fled to the ore tunnels on the Ries. Only 60 young labor service men from Group 206 from Fröndenberg formed a front on the heights. Later twelve had to be buried in the cemetery. When US soldiers approached on April 6, this was shot at from pockets of resistance. The US soldiers withdrew and now shelled the village. On April 7, the US troops entered the village without a fight. The next day the population was able to leave the tunnel. Some valuables were stolen when the houses were searched. The US troops moved on a few days later. In the aftermath there were problems with assaults by former slave laborers. The ore mine of Stolberger Zink AG was not put back into operation until January 1, 1946.

religion

In 1953 the Lady Chapel was built. The inauguration took place on September 5, 1954.

school

In 1904 a one-class school was set up in a residential building. The school building was only built in 1951. With the school reform in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1968, the school was dissolved. The building has belonged to the German Alpine Club since 2001 .
