Heinz Öhmann (born June 27, 1956 in Wettringen , Steinfurt district ) is a German local politician and has been mayor of Coesfeld since 2003 and former mayor of Hemer (1995 to 2003). He is a member of the CDU .

Life

After Heinz Öhmann graduated from high school Arnoldinum in Steinfurt , he studied economics at the University of Münster . He completed his studies with a degree in economics. Then Heinz Öhmann began his career in administration. First he worked as an assistant at the Institute for Public Finance at the University of Münster, later he was employed as a social officer at the Westphalian-Lippian Agricultural Association and managing director of the board of trustees for machine rings and auxiliary services in Westphalia and Lippe.

In Lingen (Ems) , Heinz Öhmann made his first experiences in a city administration when he was treasurer for the areas of culture, tourism, school, real estate, economic development and municipal business.

Heinz Öhmann is married and has four children. He works on a voluntary basis at the DRK and the Coesfeld Community Foundation.

Heinz Öhmann joined the Junge Union and the CDU as a teenager . In his home town of Wettringen , he worked on the board of both local associations. After moving to Rosendahl-Osterwick in 1982, he was also elected chairman of the CDU local association and was involved in the local executive committee until he took up service in Lingen in 1991.

At the beginning of 1995 the City Council of Hemer elected him one of the first full-time mayors of North Rhine-Westphalia after the change of the municipal constitution. On April 1, 1995 he took up the post of mayor of the city of Hemer and defended it in the direct mayor election in 1999 as a candidate for the CDU with 64.5 percent of the votes cast.

After a total of eight years in Hemer, he ran for the mayor's office in Coesfeld in 2003 and resigned as mayor of the city of Hemer before his term of office expired. In Coesfeld, he won the election for mayor with an absolute majority of 62.8 percent of the vote. During his tenure in Coesfeld, the imminent closure of the Freiherr-vom-Stein barracks and its conversion were among the most important political issues.

In the local elections in 2009, Öhmann - supported by the CDU, FDP and the voting community “Aktiv für Coesfeld” - was re-confirmed in office with a result of 53.4%.
