Josef Kleffner

Josef Kleffner (born November 10, 1890 in Hagen , Westphalia ; † March 15, 1966 in Dortmund ) was a member of the state parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia and mayor of both the city of Hemer and the office of the same name for 16 years . He was one of the founding members of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia.

Life

After Josef Kleffner graduated from high school, he studied philosophy, German and French in Münster and Freiburg . Since 1914 he was a member of the Catholic student union AV Arminia Münster. In 1919 he passed the state examination, he that as of 1924 as a teacher could work in Hemer.

politics

Until its dissolution in 1933, Josef Kleffner belonged to the Center Party . After the Second World War he worked as a co-founder of the CDU and became local chairman of the party in Hemer and district chairman in the Iserlohn district . As deputy chairman, he worked in the working group of cities and municipalities in the Iserlohn district.

The US troops installed Josef Kleffner in 1945 as mayor of the city and office of Hemer. Heinz Hoose followed him in October because, according to Prussian traditions, he was not supposed to hold any political office as a teacher. Four years later he was re-elected city mayor and held this office until 1952. He also took up the post of mayor a second time. In 1961 he was elected to this office, which he held until his death in 1966.

As early as 1950, the CDU politician moved into the second North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament . He won the constituency of Iserlohn-Stadt und -Land-Ost three more times before he left the state parliament on March 12, 1966, three days before his death. Before the state elections in 1958, the Hemeraner FDP mayor Karl Bode accused him of having been a member of the SS . Kleffner obtained an injunction and filed charges of defamation . At the following main hearing, Bode's assertion could not be definitively proven, although four witnesses testified against Kleffner.

In early 1963, Josef Kleffner was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.
