from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of mayors of the town of Hemer lists all mayors in office since 1900 and in office in the town of Hemer since 1975 , including the mayors of the municipalities belonging to the office. Between 1946 and 1994, the mayor and the city director formed a municipal dual leadership, since then he has assumed sole responsibility for representative tasks and also acts as head of the city administration and chairman of the city council. After the incumbent mayor Michael Esken ( CDU ) was elected mayor of the city of Verl , the office was vacant. The new election took place on January 31, 2016, the runoff election on February 14.

Hemer municipality

Hemer's mayor since the merger of Oberhemer and Niederhemer in 1910:

Before 1910, the communities of Oberhemer and Niederhemer had their own mayors. Gustav Reinhard held office in Niederhemer between 1889 and 1910, and Oberhemer's mayor was Karl Clarfeld until 1910.

City of Hemer

Michael Heilmann (Politiker) Michael Esken Heinz Öhmann Doris Ebbing Klaus Burda Hans Meyer (Bürgermeister) Werner Beckmann Hans Meyer (Bürgermeister) Fredi Camminadi Karl Bode Josef Hesse Josef Kleffner Rudolf Maiworm Hermann Arendt Heinz Hoose Josef Kleffner Wilhelm Langemann

On January 30, 1936, the municipality of Hemer was granted city rights. Since then the following politicians have been at the top of the city:

  • 1936–1945: Wilhelm Langemann (independent, later NSDAP)
During the Nazi regime, Wilhelm Langemann served as municipal and official mayor in personal union. In a letter dated September 1935, he applied for the city charter to be granted to the previous large community and in 1936 became the first mayor of the new town of Hemer. The citizens' and homeland association described its relationship with the National Socialists as "distant".
Josef Kleffner was appointed Hemeran's first mayor after the end of the war by the US occupiers. Because of his job as a teacher, he gave up the post after almost six months.
  • 1945–1946: Heinz Hoose (SPD)
Heinz Hoose also determined the occupation forces to be Kleffner's successors. He later became city director and thus head of the city administration.
Hermann Arendt was elected mayor by Hemer's first freely elected community assembly.
  • 1948–1949: Rudolf Maiworm (CDU)
Rudolf Maiworm was elected mayor by the new city council after the local elections in October 1948.
  • 1949–1952: Josef Kleffner (CDU)
During his second term as mayor of the city of Hemer, Josef Kleffner moved into the second North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament in 1950.
  • 1952–1956: Josef Hesse (center)
Josef Hesse was the last center politician at the top of the Hemeraner city.
Karl Bode was elected mayor in 1956 as the first FDP member. His tenure was overshadowed by a scandal over unlawfully received, interest-free state loans that he used to finance his own home. City director Heinz Hoose, who made this offense public, was then removed from office because of the publication of internal information. Bode remained in office until a successor was elected.
Fredi Camminadi was also a member of the district council during his tenure as mayor of Hemeran. Before 1961 and again after 1969, he served as deputy mayor for several years. Camminadi was awarded the title of "former mayor".
Hans Meyer was elected mayor for the first time in 1969. The focus of his first term of office was the discussion about the local reorganization. Ultimately, he campaigned successfully in association with other Hemeran politicians for the city to be independent and against a union with Iserlohn. Furthermore, the indoor pool was built during this time. Meyer carried the title of "former mayor".
  • 1975: Werner Beckmann (FDP)
Werner Beckmann was appointed provisionally as the representative for the performance of the tasks of the council and the mayor after the municipal reorganization, through which the new town of Hemer was formed from a union of Hemer with the communities of Becke , Deilinghofen , Frönsberg and Ihmert .
  • 1975–1987: Hans Meyer (CDU)
In Hans Meyer's second term in office, the local political focus was on the design of today's inner city and on international business talks. In addition, the city of Hemer established the city partnerships with Bretten and Obervellach at this time , while the partnerships with Beuvry and Steenwerck were taken over from the formerly independent communities. Due to a severe crisis in the Stadtsparkasse , which was due to unsecured loans, Meyer had to resign in 1987.
The focus of Klaus Burda's time as mayor was the renovation of the savings bank and the withdrawal of the British army from their barracks in Deilinghofen. In addition, the city friendships with Schtscholkowo and Doberlug-Kirchhain developed . In his last years in office, a crisis emerged in the city administration, which led to the dismissal of the city director and the first alderman.
Doris Ebbing was elected mayor by the city council in 1994 as the first woman in Hemer and in the Märkisches Kreis. After her tenure, she was deputy mayor for a few years.
In 1995, Heinz Öhmann was elected Hemer's first full-time mayor since Wilhelm Langemann. In 1995 he was one of the first politicians in North Rhine-Westphalia to hold this position.
During his tenure, Michael Esken had to deal with the withdrawal of the Bundeswehr from the Blücher barracks and the associated conversion, which was carried out in the form of the Hemer State Horticultural Show in 2010 .

After Hans Meyer's resignation in 1987, the city council elected Gundolf Hennemann (CDU) as mayor. In consultation with the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of the Interior, the election was withdrawn due to formal errors, and Klaus Burda received the most votes when it was repeated .

Mayoral chain

The mayor of Hemeran has been wearing a mayor's chain as an insignia on special occasions since 1957. The design was done by Friedhelm Treude, the chairman of the community and local community, together with goldsmith Lutz Kahlmann, who also made the necklace. The main element is the former city coat of arms, which is crowned by a sea of rocks and the coat of arms of Westphalia and the Iserlohn district . After the municipal reorganization in 1975, the new city coat of arms was placed as a door in front of the old one. Since then, the coats of arms of the former municipalities, the Märkisches Kreis and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia have been found on the inside . Other chain links show buildings from Hemeran such as the Vitus Church and the Hemer House , but also formerly typical professions for the region.
