Wilhelm Langemann
Wilhelm Lange man (* 1889 in Willertshagen , Kreis Altena , Westphalia ; † 29. July 1988 probably in Meinerzhagen , North Rhine-Westphalia ) was during the time of National Socialism both urban and Office Mayor in Hemer .
Life
After finishing school, Wilhelm Langemann began a traineeship at the Meinerzhagen administration , which he temporarily interrupted to do military service. In July 1919 he passed the first administrative examination, whereupon he began studying at the Fürst Leopold Academy for Administrative Sciences in Detmold and left in 1922 with the title of Diplom-Volkswirt . During his studies, he already focused on “communal sciences”. A short time later, after completing his preparatory service for a career as a bailiff, he received the “qualification for a difficult office” from the Arnsberg district government .
Before his tenure as Mayor of Hemeran, he headed the district welfare office of the Iserlohn district . From 1939 he was a member of the Wehrmacht and in 1945 was taken prisoner by the Soviets, from which he was released four years later. After his release he returned to Meinerzhagen and worked at Otto Fuchs KG until he retired .
politics
After the former mayor of Hemeraner Carl Degen died in 1929 and his office was vacant, 82 candidates applied for his successor. Until the decision of the official assembly, the number of candidates was reduced to three, of which Wilhelm Langemann was finally able to prevail with 13 of 24 votes. The inauguration took place on May 5, 1930. In 1934, the Meinerzhagener also took over the post of Mayor of Hemeran.
The effects of the global economic crisis on the community and its financial situation were among the most important local political issues in the first years of office. Before Hemer was granted city rights in 1936, Wilhelm Langemann had joined the NSDAP in 1933 . His plans for the city included a sewer renewal, the construction of a sewage treatment plant, the improvement of the road conditions and a community hall, but could not be implemented due to the start of the war. He remained both city and mayor of the city until the end of the Nazi regime in 1945. After his release from captivity , he was formally reinstated as mayor for a short time in order to then retire.
The Hemer Citizens' Association and Homeland Association did not invite Wilhelm Langemann in 1986 to the 50th anniversary of the city's nomination, but judged his relationship to National Socialism to be "distant" after inspection of the files.

[...] At the BHV today one reads Langemann's administrative reports with great interest, which were far-sighted; his distanced relationship to the Nazi regime is also registered. ” Iserlohner Kreisanzeiger und Zeitung , edition of March 30, 2005
