Karl Bode (born April 4, 1910 in Emden , Province of Hanover ; † November 13, 1976 in Hemer , North Rhine-Westphalia ) was Mayor of Hemer between 1956 and 1961 . He was a member of the FDP .

Life

During World War II , Karl Bode commanded a motorcycle rifle replacement unit in Hemer. By the end of the war he had risen to the rank of major .

Bode was married and had two children.

politics

Karl Bode was elected honorary mayor in Hemer in 1956. He replaced the center politician Josef Hesse and was the first FDP member in this office.

He caused a national sensation with an affair about wrongly received state loans amounting to over 38,000  DM . Although he had already returned from British captivity in 1945, he applied for support for late returnees in order to finance his planned home. He also applied for a family loan, even though his earnings exceeded the permitted income. These accusations came primarily from the acting city director of Hemeran, Heinz Hoose, who was first given voluntary leave in 1960 due to the conflict with the mayor and was then removed from office in the same year. The senior district director suspended Hoose because he had illegally made internal processes public.

Karl Bode was replaced by his previous deputy, Fredi Camminadi ( SPD ), as Hemer's first mayor in 1961 , whereas Hoose remained in office at least officially until 1964. In reality, however, Ernst Liene had occupied his position since 1960. In 1969, Bode was re-elected deputy mayor of the city of Hemer with a narrow majority.
