Heinz H. Quantity (born August 4, 1944 in Herten / Ruhr area ) is a German Germanist . Quantity has made numerous contributions to research into the language of the Ruhr area .

Life

Heinz H. Quantity attended the old-language grammar school Petrinum in Recklinghausen , studied German and classical philology in Münster, Zurich and Bochum from 1964 to 1970 and received his doctorate in 1973 on a medieval topic. From 1980 to 1997 he taught German as a foreign language in courses at the International Office of the RUB . From 1979 to 1989 he directed the RUB's international summer course . From 1986 to 1988 he was DAAD lecturer at Tongji University in Shanghai . In 1997 he returned to the German Institute , meanwhile having completed his habilitation . Heinz H. Quantity held several guest lectureships , for example in Shanghai , Minsk , Ulyanovsk , Tashkent , Riga , Catania , Xi'an and Ulan-Ude .

Together with Siegfried Grosse , he initiated the project “ Spoken Language in the Ruhr Area ” (1979 ff.) In the discussion about the application of the “ Charter of Regional or Minority Languages ” of the Council of Europe in the area of Low German, Quantity advocated a realistic assessment of the opportunities that To be able to receive Low German . Together with Ullrich "Spiggi" Spiegelberg, who died in January 2018, he founded the research library "Sprachlandschaft Ruhrgebiet" in Gelsenkirchen in 2015. It is located in the basement of a municipal building, Rolandstrasse 3, opposite the Gelsenkirchen Music Theater; therefore the initiators affectionately call them "Dat Souterrang". The research library has three goals. She wants to RESEARCH, she wants to ADVISE and she wants to DOCUMENT everything about the Ruhr area language.
