Heinz Kulüke

Heinz Kulüke SVD (born September 29, 1956 in Spelle , Emsland ) is a German religious priest .

Life

Kulüke first completed a technical training as an electrician (1973–1976) and then acquired the technical college entrance qualification for electrical engineering in Rheine . After his military service with the Air Force in Pinneberg and Husum , he began studying electrical engineering at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences , which he did not finish.

In 1979 he joined the religious order of the Steyler Missionaries in Sankt Augustin . After obtaining the general university entrance qualification (Abitur) in Bonn and a theological and philosophical training at the Philosophical-Theological College of the Steyler Missionaries in St. Augustin near Bonn, he was ordained priest on March 9, 1986 by the bishop . From 1986 to 1989 a missionary activity followed in the Philippines in Agusan del Sur in Mindanao . There he was committed to the fight against the prevailing poverty and to the observance of human rights, especially for people in the garbage dumps in the Philippine city of Cebu City . He founded JPIC-IDC in 1999, registered as a non-governmental organization under Philippine law since 2001 , and oversees various aid projects with around 70 employees.

Kulüke studied philosophy from 1989 to 1990 at the Catholic University in Washington, DC and from 1990 to 1992 took a lectureship in philosophy at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, Philippines. After taking a philosophical doctoral studies in 1992 at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, he received his doctorate in early 1994 to Dr. phil. Since June 1994 he has held a professorship in philosophy at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City.

In his order he was Vice President for Academic Affairs (1997/99), Rector - USC-SVD Community (1996-2005), Vice-Provincial - SVD-Southern Province (1998-2005) and from 2005 Provincial -SVD-Southern Province ( 2005-2014).

He was the General Chapter in Nemi, near Rome, on July 3, 2012 as the new Superior General elected. He is the 10th successor to the founder of the order and first general superior, St. Arnold Janssen, and replaced the Filipino Father Antonio Pernia in office. In July 2018 he left office on a rotating basis.
