Heinz Schieck

Heinz Schieck (* 23. February 1923 in Lehndorf , Kreis Liebenwerda ; † 12. December 1991 in Magdeburg ) was Major General (since 1976) and head of the military district commands Magdeburg of the National People's Army (NVA) of the GDR .

Life

Schieck, the son of a farm laborer, learned to be a machinist after completing the tenth grade . From 1941 to 1945 he did military service , most recently as a non-commissioned officer in the tank force. In 1945 he was taken prisoner by the US .

After his return from captivity, he became a member of the KPD in 1945 and of the SED in 1946 . On July 1, 1945 he became a member of the German People's Police and was employed by the Bad Liebenwerda People's Police District Office until 1948. In 1948/1949 he was a course student at the VP School in Cochstedt . In 1949/1950 he worked as an instructor for the VP office in Halle (Saale) . In 1951/1952 he was head of the rear services in the main administration of the German border police, then in 1952/1953 commander of the border readiness in Halberstadt . In 1953 he was an officer auditor at the officers school in Sondershausen . From 1954 to 1956 he was deputy commander, then commander of the Halberstadt border readiness. Between 1956 and 1958 he attended the college for officers with a degree in military science. He was then in 1958/1959 commander of the border readiness in Oschersleben . Schieck was then employed as the commander of the 3rd Border Brigade (1959–1962) in Perleberg , as the 1st deputy commander of the 9th Border Brigade (1963–1965) and then as the commander of the 9th Border Brigade (1965–1969) in Erfurt . From 1969 to 1971 he was an officer auditor at the "Friedrich Engels" military academy in Dresden . From 1972 to 1983 he was finally - as the successor to Colonel Rudolf Bürger - head of the Magdeburg military district command of the NVA. At the end of November 1983 he was retired and was then active as a member of the Magdeburg district committee of the anti-fascist resistance fighters .

He was also a member of the SED district leaderships in Erfurt and Magdeburg (1974–1984).
