In the summer of 2006 he moved to Melbourne Victory in Australia . There the Brazilian played in attacking midfield behind strikers Archie Thompson and Daniel Allsopp . Not least thanks to his achievements, Melbourne was by far the champions of the regular season with the most goals scored and then also won the championship playoffs. The highlight of the season was the Grand Final against Adelaide United . Fred contributed to the 6-0 final success with four assists for five-time goalscorer Archie Thompson.

He then moved in the spring of 2008 to the US professional league Major League Soccer for DC United , with which he also took first place in the regular season in 2007. Nevertheless, they failed in the play-offs in the first round. In 2008 he won the national Lamar Hunt US Open Cup with United , in the final he scored the 2-1 winner against Charleston Battery in the 50th minute. After the 2008 season, he returned briefly to the A-League as a guest player for Wellington Phoenix and played three games before breaking off his stay because of the sudden death of his father. At the end of 2008, the Australian branch of FourFourTwo magazine led Fred in its list of the best A-League imports in second place behind Dwight Yorke .

In the 2010 season, Fred played for the Philadelphia Union , for the 2011 season he was selected by the New England Revolution in the re-entry draft, but could not agree on a contract with the club and was eventually handed over to DC United , where his younger brother was Junior Carreiro played. For the 2011/12 season he is returning to Australia and will appear as a marquee player for Melbourne Heart , shortly before the start of the season he was appointed team captain by coach John van 't Schip as the successor to Simon Colosimo .
