Life
Helene Hartmann took the stage in Mannheim in 1860 and belonged to the national theater of her hometown as a youthful lover until 1864, when she became a member of the Hamburg Thalia-Theater after she had successfully performed there in May 1863.
A naive of the first order, she caught the attention of Heinrich Laube , who invited her to a guest performance at the Burgtheater in Vienna in 1865 and engaged her there in 1867.
Since 1868 the wife of the court actor and director Ernst Hartmann , in 1870 she was appointed real court actress. Hartmann played with perfect natural truth and, as Laube boasted, possessed the captivating naturalness of an unbiased, happy being who feels genuinely and simply expresses this feeling.
Her daughter, Emilie Hartmann (1877–1953), married the Austrian industrialist Max von Gutmann (1857–1930) in 1896 .
Helene Hartmann, first buried at the Gersthofer Friedhof , Vienna-Währing , next to her son Paul, who died on November 1, 1891 (at the age of 20), was exhumed on October 28, 1905 and taken to the Döblinger Friedhof , Vienna- Döbling , buried in the newly built family crypt (group 20, number 1).
