Helmut Dotzler

Helmut August Dotzler (born July 1, 1957 in Erlangen ) is a retired Brigadier General . D. the air force of the German armed forces. His last position was from November 27, 2013 to September 30, 2019, in command of the Bavarian State Command .

Military career

Dotzler joined the Bundeswehr in 1976 and started his officer training. He completed his degree in business administration at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich . From 1980 he trained as an anti-aircraft missile officer (FlaRak officer) in El Paso , Texas . Then Dotzler served ten years in Erding, including as a supply officer and squadron chief. From 1991 to 1993 he successfully completed the 36th General Staff Course of the Air Force in Hamburg. Subsequently, he held the post as a senior officer in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Bonn. From 1996 he worked as a department head in the Air Force Office in Cologne, where he was project manager for the establishment of the Air Force flight training center in the USA. In 1998 he became head of the Air Force Support Command (LwUKdo) Cologne and was responsible for the further development of the Air Force's logistics. From 1999, he was employed as an adjutant to the inspector of the Air Force in Bonn. In 2002 he was in command of the Air Force Supply Regiment 8 (LwVersRgt 8) in Mechernich and the Logistics Regiment 46 (LogRgt 46) in Diez . Dotzler was reinstated as head of department in the ministry in 2004 . He then worked for NATO in Belgium from 2005 to 2008 before returning to the BMVg in 2009 for the "Mobility of Armed Forces" staff. From 2010 Dotzler was head of the office for Parliamentary State Secretary Christian Schmidt in Berlin. Between 2012 and 2013 he was head of the German Liaison Command at the United States Central Command in Tampa / USA.

On November 27, 2013 Colonel Helmut Dotzler took over the position of commander of the Bavarian State Command (Kdr LKdoBY) from Johann Berger and became the first officer to be promoted to general on this post. Brigadier General Dotzler retired on September 30, 2019.

Private

Dotzler is married and has two sons.
