Helmut Müller (politician, 1944)
Helmut Müller (* 8. April 1944 in Bamberg ) is a German CSU - politician and former Member of Parliament.
Life and work
Helmut Müller graduated from the humanistic old grammar school in Bamberg, today's Kaiser Heinrich grammar school . This was followed by studying law and political science at the Universities of Erlangen and Würzburg . After the first and second state examinations, he received a doctorate to become Dr. jur. from. He was the lawyer and vice-chancellor of the University of Bamberg as well as a government director. He lives and works in Bamberg. He is Roman Catholic, married and has three sons.

Helmut Müller became a member of the CSU in 1974 and has been a city councilor in Bamberg since May 1984 .
In 1990, Müller was first elected to the Bavarian state parliament for the Bamberg-Stadt constituency, to which he was a member from October 1990 to October 2008. From October 30, 1990 to October 14, 1994, he was a member of the Committee on Rules of Procedure and Election Review and the Committee on Cultural Policy. In his second and third term, he sat from November 10, 1994 to September 27, 1998 in the Committee on Economy, Transport and Borderlands and from October 28, 1998 to October 5, 2003 in the Committee on State Budget and Financial Matters. In his last active legislative period in the state parliament, he was a member of the State Budget and Financial Affairs Committee from November 4, 2003 to October 19, 2008, and of the Judges' Election Commission from December 10, 2003 to October 19, 2008. In 2008 he was no longer a candidate.
On July 12, 2004, Müller received the Bavarian Order of Merit .
Helmut Müller has been chairman of the CSU city council group in Bamberg since 2006 and was chairman of the CSU district association Bamberg-Stadt from 2006 to 2011.
In 2017, Müller got into serious trouble because of a statement in relation to the Bamberg Sandkerwa, which might be canceled this year after the citizens' association had withdrawn as the organizer . Quote: “The Sandkerwa is an amusement for the precariat. This is where lower classes come together to get drunk. ”Even the CSU parliamentary group was outraged and distanced itself from Müller's views. Then he prescribed himself a pause for thought and temporarily suspended his office.
Engagements
The passionate marathon runner is considered the initiator of the Bamberg World Heritage Run . During his studies in 1964 he joined the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Fredericia Bamberg joined in CV .
