Helmut Wittmann (born March 12, 1959 in Wels ) is an Austrian narrator .

Life

After attending the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster and graduating from commercial school in Gmunden, Wittmann worked as a castle secretary, state-certified film projectionist , exhibition supervisor , game inventor , farm worker , conceptionist and copywriter in direct marketing and lives with his wife Ursula and the children Heidemarie, Sigrid, Gundula, Clara and Valentin in Grünau im Almtal .

In 1987 he was co-organizer of the international fairy tale festival SAGA 87 in the Upper Austrian region of Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen and made his first appearances as a storyteller . He has been a full-time storyteller since 1990.

Artistic creation

Wittmann deals intensively with the transmission of stories from the European East and the oriental Sufi tradition. One focus of his activity are the alpine folk and magic tales .

Quote: Through the symbols and archetypes that are deeply rooted in us, the stories from our own culture speak to us most directly. Unfortunately, these folk tales are all but forgotten. - The point is not to tell nostalgic stories, but to gain spiritual tools for a happy life.

Helmut Wittmann is working on reviving the storytelling tradition with fairy tale evenings, storytelling afternoons, fairy tale dinners, legend hikes, seminars in adult education and storytelling lessons and presentations at schools. Together with Mehmet Dalkilic ( Turkey ), Helena Svobodova ( Bohemia ), Aneta Marie Pichler ( Russia ), Lea Zukic ( Bosnia ), Jasmina Maksimovic ( Serbia ) and Evelyn Mair ( Italy ), he developed a series of bilingual programs. The story is told in a lively, bilingual dialogue.

With participation in international festivals such as the Styriarte , Graz tells, Fabelhaft! Niederösterreich, the Jeunesses Musicales in the Wiener Konzerthaus, the MärchenTage Strasbourg (F), Zauberwort Nürnberg (D), the German Fairy Tale Festival in Neukirchen an der Vluyn (D), the 1st Mannheim Fairy Tale Days, the "City of Fairy Tales" in Jicin (CZ), the Museum Ritter (D), the Tyrolean Fairy Tale Festival in the Swarovski Crystal Worlds, with musicians from the Hagen Quartet at the Hagen Open at Feistritz Castle and the MundArt storytelling festival ( CH) Wittmann became known nationwide.

Since 1994 he has been designing the monthly legendary hour in "Bei uns dahoam" for ORF - Radio Oberösterreich and Radio Salzburg. In 2004 he wrote the libretto for the sagical »Alba« . This musical based on an old legend was performed in the summer of 2004.

The Congress of the European Society tales Helmut Wittmann was in 2003 Potsdam awarded the "German folk narrator Prize". In 2008 he received the authors' award from Lesetopia, Austria's largest reading fair.
In spring 2010, at his request, the story of fairy tales in Austria was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage in Austria by UNESCO .

In 2011 he received honorary citizenship of his home community Grünau im Almtal .

In August 2012 it was in Scharnstein . the operetta "Cilli and the Black Count" premiered with great success. The six performances were sold out. There were also over three thousand people. Helmut Wittmann developed the story and wrote the libretto. Hermann Miesbauer composed the music.
