Helmuth von Hardenberg

Helmuth Wilhelm Graf von Hardenberg (born August 31, 1842 in Neuhardenberg ; † August 26, 1915 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 14th Cavalry Brigade .

Life

origin

His grandfather was the Chamberlain and Landjägermeister Georg Adolph Gottlieb von Hardenberg . His parents were Carl Adolf Christian von Hardenberg (1794–1866) and his second wife Charlotte, née von Hedemann (1800–1871). His father was a lieutenant colonel. D., was a hereditary member of the Prussian mansion and a free class lord, but renounced his prince dignity. His brother Werner (1829–1909) became a Prussian lieutenant general.

Life

He received his school education in the Schnepfenthal educational institution in Thuringia . Then he got private lessons in Zerbst and Berlin . After graduating, he joined the 2nd Dragoons Regiment of the Prussian Army on June 20, 1859, and advanced to Swekondeleutnant by mid-November 1862 . During the German War of 1866 he fought at Liebenau, Münchengrätz and Königgrätz . From October 9, 1867 to September 30, 1868 he was assigned to the Military Riding Institute and rose to Prime Lieutenant in mid-December 1868 .

During the Franco-Prussian War he fought near Vionville , Gravelotte , Beaune-la-Rolande and Orleans . He was also at the siege of Metz and the battles at Montbarrois, Bois-Commune, Chilleurs-aux-Bois, Vaumeinbert, Gien, Laval and La Fliche. <"- copie almost illegible -> Awarded the Iron Cross II After the war, Hardenberg became a cavalry captain and squadron chief . He was given the status of major on November 13, 1886 and a patent for his rank on February 15, 1887. On April 22, 1889 his regiment was aggregated and on May 22, 1889 as Regular staff officer transferred to Dragoon Regiment No. 17. There he rose to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1892. On May 17, 1892, he was transferred to represent the commander in Dragoon Regiment No. 14 , and was given the rank On June 18, 1892 he was appointed regiment commander and on January 27, 1895 he was promoted to colonel.On the occasion of the festival of the order, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd class with ribbon, in January 1897 and was untrained on April 17, 1897 he position à la suite of his regiment, commander of the 14th Cavalry Brigade in Düsseldorf. Hardenberg married on May 20, 1872 in Zernikow Olga von Wedel (1847–1935), daughter of the Ritterschatfsrat Wilhelm von Wedel (1819–1889). The couple had their adopted son Ernst Schattschneider (* 1894), Dr Jur. Ministerialrat who bore the name Graf von Hardenberg-Schattschneider.
