Hemeringen is a village about 10 km from Hameln in the city of Hessisch Oldendorf with about 2000 inhabitants.
history
The foundation of the village of Hemeringen is dated around 800. The old village church was built before 1151, the first written mention of the name Hemeringen was in 1145.
Hemeringen was of supra-local importance in earlier times. In the year 1200 there was a Gau court (Go court). Furthermore, Hemeringen was the seat of an Augustinian monastery order . This monastery was moved from Egestorf to Hemeringen around 1426 and returned to Egestorf in 1468, where it was dissolved in 1559. Hemeringen was the seat of the provost's office , which in addition to the Egestorf nunnery administered the parish of Fuhlen .
The name Hemeringen may have derived from Ham = forest via Hemern , an indication that the forest around the Hemeringer Berg could have reached the southern outskirts in the earliest times. A second derivation names the clan leader Hamar (Hamar-ingen) as the namesake for Hemeringen. Hemeringen derives a third interpretation from "Hem" = home by the water (home by the water).
The local seal with oak , two mill wheels and water shows the former landscape surroundings of Hemeringen with rich forests and the fertile Bachtal with the Hemeringer Bach , which supplied the water power for numerous mills . After these mills, Hemeringen is also known as "the village of seven mills". Some of them such as B. the poplar mill can still be seen, but no longer in operation.
The village of Hemeringen has two churches. The Protestant church is located on Kirchstrasse, its parish belongs to the Hameln-Pyrmont parish of the Hildesheim-Göttingen district . The Catholic Church of St. Maria was built in 1966 at the northern exit of the village, since 2012 it has belonged to the parish of St. Sturmius in Rinteln.
In the lower part is the old village with medical practices, small shops and the volunteer fire department. The larger new building areas are in the upper part.
Hemeringen is known, among other things, for the Schützenfest, which has been celebrated every four years since 1842. In the high spirits after the Napoleonic Wars , the residents of Hemeringen were given the option of holding an annual fair or celebrating a shooting festival. The decision was made for the Schützenfest, which has been celebrated every four years since 1842. Here the battle at Hemeringer Berg is re-enacted. During the Napoleonic wars, marauding French soldiers retreating home also marched through Hemeringen. A resident of Hemeringen was killed in the looting, whereupon a vigilante group ensured peace and order. The two large companies of the Schützenfest, the rifle company and the robber company, emerged from this story. The Hemeringer Schützenvereinigung from 1842 is one of the oldest in Germany.
On January 1, 1973, the community was Hemeringen the Hamelin-Pyrmont district in the county county Schaumburg reclassified. The previously independent communities of Friedrichsburg, Friedrichshagen, Fuhlen, Heßlingen, Lachem and Rumbeck were incorporated. On January 29, 1973 Hemeringen was assigned to the city of Hessisch Oldendorf.
