Henning Larsen
Henning Larsen (born August 20, 1925 in Opsund (Brejning Sogn) near Ringkøbing , Denmark ; † June 22, 2013 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish architect and founder of the international architectural office Henning Larsen Architects , who was best known for his cultural buildings. Larsen was one of the leading and best known Scandinavian architects.
Life
Henning Larsen's father was a country school teacher in Opsund. In 1950 Larsen began studying architecture at the Architectural Association in London . After graduating in 1951, he worked for Arne Jacobsen and began studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen . In 1952 he graduated there and traveled to the United States , financed by a scholarship .
In 1956 Larsen founded an architecture office together with Max Brüel , Gehrdt Bornebusch and Jørgen Selchau , but left the group in 1959 and founded his own office, Henning Larsens Tegnestue . Since 1995 Larsen has held a professorship at the Art Academy in Copenhagen. In addition to his projects in Northern Europe, Larsen has worked in Saudi Arabia and Germany .

- Mies van der Rohe Prize European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture for his Harpa concert hall in the Icelandic capital Reykjavík (2013)
