Henri Georges Charles Gabriel Darrieus (* 11. August 1921 in Toulon , Var , † 6. December 2013 in Paris ) was a French naval officer of the Navy , who most recently as Rear Admiral (Vice-amiral) 1977-1978 Commanding Admiral of the Navy Zone Indian Ocean ALINDIA (Commandant la Zone Maritime Océan India) was.

Life

Henri Georges Charles Gabriel Darrieus was a grandson of Rear Admiral Pierre Joseph Gabriel Georges Darrieus , who was commander of the 2nd Mediterranean Squadron (2ème Escadre en Méditerranée) during the First World War , and an older brother of Sea Captain Guy Benoît Marie Gaétan Darrieus. After attending school in 1939, he began his officer training at the Naval School (École Navale) .After graduation, he became a lieutenant at sea (Enseigne de vaisseau de deuxième classe) on July 15, 1940, and a first lieutenant at sea (Enseigne de vaisseau de première classe) promoted. He served in the Mediterranean Squadron and between 1944 and 1946 on the light cruiser Émile Bertin . On October 3, 1947, he was promoted to lieutenant captain (Lieutenant de Vaisseau) and took part in the Indochina War after his use as commander of Jagdboot 10 . After graduating from the Higher Naval War School (École supérieure de guerre navale) between 1954 and 1955 , after his promotion to Corvette Captain (Capitaine de Corvette) on March 1, 1956, he served in the staff of the 1st Naval Region in Cherbourg and then between 1957 and 1958 as first officer of the destroyer Casabianca . He was then in 1959 in command of the Aviso Gazlele and in 1960 in command of the frigate Le Brestois .

After being promoted to frigate captain (Capitaine de Frégate) on October 1, 1961, Darrieus was an officer in the staff of the 2nd Naval Region between 1961 and 1963 and then first officer of the helicopter carrier La Résolue . He then became commander of the destroyer Dupetit-Thouars in 1964 and naval adjutant in the landing test center in 1965. On April 1, 1966 he was promoted to captain at sea (Capitaine de Vaisseau) . After further assignments, Darrieus became a Flotilla Admiral (Contre-amiral) on July 11, 1977, successor to Rear Admiral André Maler Commanding Admiral of the Indian Ocean Marine Zone ALINDIA (Commandant la Zone Maritime Océan India) and held this position until October 19, 1978, whereupon Rear Admiral Jean-Paul Orosco succeeded him. In this position he was last promoted to Rear Admiral (Vice-amiral) . For his services he became an officer of the Legion of Honor and commander of the Ordre national du Mérite . He was also active between 1985 and 1999 as President of the Maritime Society (Société des œuvres de Mer) .
