Henri Goiran

Henri Jean Joseph Auguste Goiran (born June 9, 1881 in Toulouse , † 1972 ) was a French diplomat .

Life

Henri Goiran was the son of Madeleine Duras and François Goiran, who was Minister of War for a short time in 1911 and Mayor of Nice from 1912 to 1919 .

Henri Goiran attended the École de droit and the Philological Faculty at the Sorbonne and completed his studies with a degree in law and political science .

He joined the Foreign Service in 1907 and was employed at the Consulates of New York and Chicago in 1919 . From 1920 to 1923 he was Consul General in Liverpool and from 1924 to 1928 he held the same office in Johannesburg . From 1929 to 1932 he moved to London in the same position . From 1933 to 1939 he was Ministre plénipotentiaire in Mexico City . In 1937 he married Lucie Chouanard; their son is called Roger Goiran. From 1939 to 1940, Henri Goiran was Ministre plénipotentiaire in Riga for the Baltic States .

In 1940 he was retired and from then on devoted himself to research and teaching. From 1946 to 1960 he researched and taught at Fordham University , Columbia University and at The New School in New York.

Goiran published historical works and was a chairman of the French Folklore Society of New York for several years . He was accepted into the Legion of Honor and decorated with the Croix de guerre , the Grand-Croix dans l'Ordre de l'Aigle Aztèque and the silver Médaille d'honneur pour acte de courage .
