Henry is a city in Marshall County in the north of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2000 Henry had 2540 inhabitants.

Henry is at 41 ° 06'47 "north latitude and 89 ° 21'37" west longitude. The city extends over 3.6 km², which consists exclusively of land.

Henry is located on the Illinois River 34 miles north-northeast of Peoria .

On the western edge of Henry runs the Illinois State Route 29 , which runs north to south and joins the Illinois State Route 18 , which runs through the city center .

From Henry it is 199 km in an east-northeast direction to Chicago , via Illinois' 173 km away capital Springfield it is 333 km to St. Louis , the Quad Cities are 140 km in a west-northwest direction.

history

Henry was founded in 1834 and named after General James D. Henry . A location high above the Illinois River was chosen for the construction of the settlement, so that no flood could threaten the place.

In 1854 the place was given the status city .

Demographic data

In the 2000 census, the population was 2,540. These were distributed over 1,014 households in 678 families. The population density was 713.8 / km². There were 1,114 residential buildings, which corresponded to a building density of 313.1 / km².

The population in 2000 was 97.7% white , 0.5% African American , 0.2% Native American , 0.2% Asian and 0.1% other. 1.3% said they came from at least two of these groups. 0.6% of the population consisted of Hispanics belonging to any of the above groups.

23.9% were under 18 years of age, 6.9% between 18 and 24, 24.1% between 25 and 44, 23.0% between 45 and 64 and 22.1% 65 and older. The mean age was 42 years. Statistically, there were 88.1 men for every 100 women, 87.1 for those over 18 years of age.
