Henry P. Warner
Henry P. Warner (born July 15, 1940 in East Harlem , New York City , † April 9, 2014 ) was an American free jazz musician ( alto saxophone , clarinet , flute ).
Live and act
Warner began his musical career as a trombonist and singer in a high school dance band. He then played in a local Latin band and attended several music schools. From the 1970s he worked in the New York loft and avant-garde scene a. a. with musicians like Billy Bang , Roy Campbell , Earl Freeman , Frank Lowe , Zane Massey , Jemeel Moondoc , Sunny Murray , William Parker and Blaise Siwula . In the field of jazz he was involved in nine recording sessions between 1974 and 2003. With his formation, The Bakery , he appeared in various New York jazz clubs, such as Slug’s , Ali's Alley, Sweet Basil and the Henry Street Playhouse. Warner has also worked with theater groups, television and radio, and appeared in the Duke Ellington centenary celebrations at Lincoln Center . In 2003 he was a guest at the New York Vision Festival with William Parker's Jeanne Lee Project . In his later years he taught at the MindBuilders Creative Arts Center in the Bronx . Most recently he lived in Mount Vernon (New York) .
