David F. James (born December 6, 1905 (uncertain) in Mason City , Cerro Gordo County , Iowa , † July 7, 1996 in Chester , Liberty County , Montana ) was an American politician . Between 1962 and 1965 he was acting lieutenant governor of the state of Montana.

Career

There are almost no usable sources about David James. His life dates (1905–1996) come from Find A Grave and, according to the gravestone, concern a state senator. This may be the lieutenant governor discussed here. However, since this is not clearly certain, these life data including place of birth and death must also be considered with reservations. What is certain is that David James lived at least temporarily in Montana and belonged to the Democratic Party .

After the death of Governor Donald Grant Nutter , his lieutenant governor Tim M. Babcock took over the highest office in Montana. The now vacated office of Vice Governor fell to the office of President Pro Tempore of the State Senate in accordance with the state constitution . Since David James is now promoted to acting lieutenant governor, it must be assumed that he was incumbent Senate President at the time. He held the post of acting vice governor between 1962 and 1965.
