William R. Allen

William Richard Allen (born June 25, 1871 in Anaconda , Montana , †  October 31, 1953 in Butte , Montana) was an American politician . Between 1909 and 1913 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Montana.

Career

William Allen attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1891 the Helena Business College . He later worked in various industries, including mining. He also worked in the railway business and banking as well as in the insurance industry. He became president of the Wisdom and Pacific Railway Company , the Boston and Montana Development Company, and the Montana Fire Insurance Company . He was also a director at State Savings Bank in Butte. He was also involved in other companies. Around 1920 he ran a company that bought land in northern Mexico . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1902 he was elected to the Montana House of Representatives, where he remained until 1908.

In 1908, Allen was elected lieutenant governor of Montana alongside Edwin L. Norris . He held this office between 1909 and 1913. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After serving as Lieutenant Governor, Allen returned to his business ventures. In 1920 and 1924 he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Conventions , at which Warren G. Harding and later Calvin Coolidge were nominated as presidential candidates. In 1940 he ran unsuccessfully in his party's primary election for a seat in the US House of Representatives . He died in Butte on October 31, 1953.
