Tom Kane (politician)

Thomas "Tom" Kane (born August 23, 1878 in Kingston , Ontario , Canada , †  March 20, 1939 in Ravalli County , Montana ) was an American politician . Between 1933 and 1934 he was acting lieutenant governor of the state of Montana.

Career

Nothing is known about Tom Kane's youth and schooling. He has since lived in Benton County , Oregon . At an unknown time before 1915, he came to Montana, where he embarked on a political career. He first belonged to the Progressive Party founded by former President Theodore Roosevelt and then joined the Republicans . Since 1915 he sat in the Senate of Montana , whose President Pro Tempore he had been since 1929.

After the resignation of Governor John Edward Erickson , who moved to the US Senate , Vice-Governor Frank Henry Cooney succeeded him in the highest office in Montana. According to the state constitution, the President Pro Tempore of the State Senate, Thomas Kane, took over the role of Vice Governor on a temporary basis. He held this position until the end of his tenure as President Pro Tempore in 1934. After his time as Lieutenant Governor, Tom Kane no longer appeared politically. He died on March 20, 1939 in Ravalli County. Kane was a member of the Masonic and American Legion veterans organization .
