Benjamin Franklin White
Benjamin Franklin White (born December 3, 1833 in New Bedford , Massachusetts , † December 4, 1920 in Dillon , Montana ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ). He was the last governor of the Montana Territory in 1889 .

White was elected to the Montana Territory Parliament in 1882. There he remained until 1883. In 1889 he was appointed by US President Benjamin Harrison to succeed Preston Leslie as the twelfth and last territorial governor in Montana. During his short term in office until November 8, 1889, the day on which Montana was admitted to the Union as the new US state , preparations for this accession were made there, a constitution was drawn up and the first elections were held.
With the assumption of office of the first regular governor Joseph Toole White's reign ended. Between 1902 and 1904 he was a member of the House of Representatives of Montana and at times speaker of this Chamber of Parliament; from 1904 to 1908 he was a member of the State Senate . After that he was lieutenant governor of his state until 1909 .
