Ernest T. Eaton

Ernest T. Eaton (born September 11, 1877 in Atkinson , Piscataquis County , Maine , † August 23, 1957 in Kalispell , Montana ) was an American politician . In 1934 and between 1941 and 1949 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Montana.

Career

Nothing is known about Ernest Eaton's youth and schooling. He lived for some time in Des Moines ( Iowa ) and then came at an unknown time to Montana, where he was in Billings settled. There he was a school councilor. In 1908 he founded the Billings Polytechnic Institute , now Rocky Mountain College . In 1931 he was president of this institute. He also became a member of the Freemasons . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1915 and 1919 and again from 1923 to 1925 he was a member of the House of Representatives in Montana ; from 1925 to 1933 he was a member of the State Senate . In 1934 he was acting lieutenant governor of his state under Governor Frank Henry Cooney for one year . He held this office as the successor to Tom Kane . Then he was replaced by Elmer Holt .

In 1940, Eaton was elected regular lieutenant governor of Montana alongside Sam C. Ford . He held this office between 1941 and 1949. He was Deputy Governor and formal chairman of the State Senate. After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He died on August 19, 1957.
