Gordon McOmber

W. Gordon McOmber (born October 2, 1919 in Magrath , Alberta , † August 24, 2018 in Great Falls , Montana ) was an American politician . In 1988 and 1989 he was acting lieutenant governor of the state of Montana. As a young politician he was close to the Farmer's Union , later he became a member of the Democratic Party .

Life

McOmber was born in Canada to American parents in 1919, and his family moved to Montana in 1929 . He graduated from high school in 1938 and worked as a farmer from then on . In 1954 he was first elected to the Montana House of Representatives. He was elected to the Montana Legislature for eleven consecutive terms , including five in the House of Representatives and six in the Montana Senate , serving as Senate President three times. After the resignation of Lieutenant Governor George Turman , he took over his constitutional office and ended his term of office as acting Lieutenant Governor, which ran until January 1989. Then the newly elected Allen Kolstad took over this role. In 2005 he gave an interview about his political work.
