Karl Ohs

Karl Ohs (born November 18, 1946 in Malta , Montana , †  November 25, 2007 in Helena , Montana) was an American politician . Between 2001 and 2005 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Montana.

Career

Karl Ohs attended Montana State College , where he studied agriculture. He left school without a qualification to help his family in farming. During his college years he was active as a wrestler. In 2004, while serving as lieutenant governor, he graduated from Montana State University . In between, he and his family ran a ranch in Montana. In 1988 he co-founded the agricultural company Montana Agricultural Producers Inc. and became its chairman. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He initially held a few local offices in his home country. He was elected to the Montana House of Representatives in 1995, 1997 and 1999 . In 1994 he made a name for himself when he managed to end a non-violent uprising by the religious group Montana Freemen .

In 2000, Ohs was elected lieutenant governor of Montana alongside Judy Martz . He held this office between 2001 and 2005. He was Deputy Governor . In 2002 he became chairman of the National Lieutenant Governors Association . Between 2005 and 2007 he was the Republican President. He died on November 25, 2007 in Helena.
