Allen C. Kolstad (born December 24, 1931 in Chester , Liberty County , Montana , †  August 2, 2008 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1989 and 1991 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Montana.

Career

Allen Kolstad attended the common schools and then to 1951, the Concordia College in Moorhead ( Minnesota ). Since 1951 he lived on a farm south of Chester. There he worked as a farmer and rancher. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1969 and 1975 he was a member of the House of Representatives in Montana ; from 1975 he was a member of the State Senate . He was a member of several committees in both chambers. He also held several party offices at the state and federal level. Since Gerald Ford's presidential campaign in 1980, he supported the election campaigns of all Republican presidential candidates in the following years.

In 1988 Kolstad was elected lieutenant governor of Montana alongside Stan Stephens . He held this office between 1989 and his resignation in 1991. He was Deputy Governor . In 1990 he ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate . He resigned after his appointment to the International Boundry Commission , which deals with American-Canadian border issues. He held this mandate until 1993. Between 2004 and 2007 Kolstad was a member of the Republican National Committee . He died on August 2, 2008 in his hometown of Chester.
