Henry Rasmussen (born January 15, 1877 in Svendborg / Denmark , † June 2, 1959 in Bremen ) was a boat builder , yacht designer and shipyard owner.

He began his training in 1895 as a boat builder apprentice at his grandfather's shipyard in Svendborg. Further stations in his professional life were the Hansen shipyard in Odense , Burmeister & Wain in Copenhagen , the shipyard in Tönning and the Bremer Vulkan . After all, Rasmussen helped set up the North Sea Works in Emden .

Together with Georg Abeking , he founded the Abeking & Rasmussen (A&R) shipyard in Lemwerder on the Lower Weser on October 1st, 1907 . The first successes were quickly achieved, especially since the yacht designs were characterized by a special elegance. In 1910, Rasmussen designed and built the first patent auger reefing device. In 1920 the design of the Viska followed , the predecessor of the Hansa dinghy , which he presented in 1947. In 1928 and 1929, Henry Rasmussen traveled to America to maintain an intensive exchange of experience with American designers on the east coast such as Nathanael Herreshoff . Rasmussen's initiative was largely responsible for the introduction of the archipelago cruisers in the USA.

In 1933 A&R built the first spreading gaff ketch Vamarie in Germany (196 m² sail area) and before 1935 he designed the 25 m² unit keel yacht . In 1948, together with the major shipping company Erich Ferdinand Laeisz (1888–1958), he developed the KR formula for sailing cruisers, which was initiated on the 28th German Sailing Day in 1927 in Vienna , a computational measurement system for the cruiser classes instead of the previous limit measurement method with maximum or lower limit values . In 1952, Henry Rasmussen was admitted to the Technical Committee of the International Sailing Federation .

On June 2, 1959, Henry Rasmussen died at the age of 82 as a result of a car accident near Bremen.
