Henry Sebastian D'Souza

Henry Sebastian D'Souza (born January 20, 1926 in Igatpuri ; † June 27, 2016 ) was Archbishop of Calcutta .

Life

Henry Sebastian D'Souza was ordained a priest on August 24, 1948 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him bishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar on January 24, 1974 . The Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in India , Archbishop John Gordon , donated him episcopal ordination on May 5 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Lawrence Trevor Picachy SJ , Archbishop of Calcutta, and Pius Kerketta SJ, Archbishop of Ranchi .

On March 29, 1985, he was appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Calcutta by Pope John Paul II . With the resignation of Lawrence Trevor Picachy on April 5, 1986, he succeeded him as Archbishop of Calcutta. On April 2, 2002, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
