Raphael Cheenath
Raphael Cheenath SVD (born December 29, 1934 in Manalur ; † August 14, 2016 ) was an Indian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar .
Life
Raphael Cheenath joined the religious order of the Steyler Missionaries and was ordained a priest on September 21, 1963 .
Pope Paul VI appointed him on February 28, 1974 Bishop of Sambalpur . His predecessor as Bishop of Sambalpur, Hermann Westermann SVD, donated him episcopal ordination on May 18 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Pius Kerketta SJ , Archbishop of Ranchi , and Joseph Robert Rodericks SJ, Bishop of Jamshedpur .
Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar on July 1, 1985 . On February 11, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related resignation.
