Herbert H. "Herb" carbon (* 7. February 1935 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) is an American entrepreneur , politician of the Democratic Party and philanthropist .

Life

Kohl was born and raised in Milwaukee. He studied at the University of Wisconsin – Madison , where he received his bachelor's degree in 1956 . In 1958 he graduated from Harvard University with a Masters in Economics. Between 1958 and 1964, Kohl was a member of the United States Army Reserve .

After graduating, Kohl founded his own company Kohl Investments . From 1970 to 1979 Kohl was President of the Kohl’s company . From 1985 until the end of the 2013/2014 season, he was the owner of the NBA basketball team Milwaukee Bucks . As of January 1989, Kohl was the United States Senator for the state of Wisconsin. From 2007 he chaired the Special Committee on Aging . Kohl is unmarried and a member of the Jewish religious community.

In May 2011, Kohl announced that he would not apply again for his mandate in the 2012 Senate election . On the Republican side, Tommy Thompson , former governor of Wisconsin, was considered the most promising candidate for the nomination. Given the good poll numbers, the Democrats expected that Russ Feingold , who resigned from the Senate at the beginning of 2011 after losing to Republican Ron Johnson , would run; however, he declared his waiver in August 2011. Congressmen Tammy Baldwin and Ron Kind were able to calculate the prospects for the nomination, but unlike Feingold they lagged behind the Republican candidates Thompson and Mark Neumann in polls . Baldwin was finally able to prevail against the former governor Tommy Thompson and took over from Kohl.
