Herbert Malecha

Herbert Malecha (born August 27, 1927 in Ratibor , Upper Silesia , † April 8, 2011 in Schwäbisch Hall ) was a German high school professor and writer . He is best known for his short story Die Probe , published in December 1954 , which is considered a classic short story .

Life

Herbert Malecha was born in Ratibor , Upper Silesia . His father, a police officer, was transferred to Berlin , where Malecha first went to school. The family returned to Ratibor before 1939 and Herbert Malecha became a 15-year-old Air Force helper in 1943 . In October 1944 he joined the Reich Labor Service and in the same year became a Wehrmacht soldier on the Eastern Front .

After the war, Malecha led an unsettled life, working at times as an agricultural, construction and factory worker, as a librarian , sales representative and in other professions. He settled down in Württemberg , where he passed his Abitur in 1947 . Malecha then completed a degree at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen until 1953 . After his legal clerkship, he became a study assessor in Schwäbisch Hall in 1955 .

His well-known short stories are: The sample , which appeared at the end of 1954, and Prohaske and the great life , which he published in March 1956. In 1962 his book Modern Poetry - An Anthology for School Use was published and he was appointed high school professor. During his teaching activities, he also worked as a textbook reviewer and as a consultant for Ernst Klett Verlag , but had to take early retirement due to illness.

In his spare time, Malecha was deputy chairman of the board of trustees of the Schwäbisch Hall open-air theater for decades .

Herbert Malecha died in Schwäbisch Hall and was buried in the forest cemetery next to his wife on April 14, 2011.
