Herbert Pirker

Herbert Pirker (* 1981 in Mooskirchen ) is an Austrian jazz musician ( drums , composition). Pirker grew up in Styria. He started drumming at the age of six. In 1999 he moved to Vienna, where he studied with Walter Grassmann at the Vienna Conservatory until 2004. He formed a trio with Max Nagl and Clemens Wenger and belonged to the groups Kelomat , Falb Fiction and Weisse Walls . He also performed with musicians such as Zeena Parkins , Wolfgang Mitterer , Louis Sclavis , Wolfgang Puschnig , Jack Walrath , Klaus Dickbauer , Otto Lechner and Kurt Ostbahn . Since 2011 he has been a member of Mario Roms Interzone ; he is also a member of David Helbock's trio and Lukas Kranzelbinder's Shake Stew . He forms FAT - First Austrian Trio with guitarist Alex Machacek and bassist Raphael Preuschl .

He also teaches at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz . Pirker received the Austrian Young Lions Award in 2003 (with the Martin Reiter Trio ) and 2004 (with Kelomat ) . In 2007 he was awarded the Hans Koller Prize in the Newcomer category at the Vienna Jazz Workshop .
